Summary of Duties:
Under the direction of the General Manager Culinary Support Center, this position will:
Assist with meeting reservations, banquet event order completion, client contact and billing for University Catering.
At assigned catering events, supervise and direct the activities of banquet staff for all aspects of catered events, ensuring that all guests are properly served and attended to throughout assigned catered events.
Position is responsible for hiring and scheduling, student employees for University Catering. Position assists with supervising, evaluating, and coaching of all student managers/supervisors and student employees for University Catering
Gather and deploy resources such as personnel, china, linen and trucks in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
Maintain a high level of customer service throughout all events.
Adhere to all food handling and sanitation guidelines. Assist with product inventory as needed.
Ensure service equipment and supplies are in good working order. Ensure catering venues are clean and well-maintained throughout the event.
Acts as client point of contact, customer service leader and subject matter expert for all event operational needs supporting the needs of the Catering Management Team.
Contribute to a positive, productive, and harmonious work environment.
Assist and monitor annual capital and operating budgets.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant administration, institutional management, business administration or closely related field and two (2) years of supervisory/management experience which included planning and budgeting. Additional qualifying food service work experience and/or vocational training in quantity food preparation may be substituted, year-for-year, for college education.
Knowledge of Windows based computer systems and Microsoft applications.
Demonstrated strong leadership skills, organizational abilities, and supervisory experience.
Experience developing and maintaining operational policies and procedures.
Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
Must possess or be able to obtain within 14 days of employment, a Washington State Food Handler's Permit.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in event planning/coordination and/or catering scheduling.
Knowledge of computer systems related to facility management or scheduling.
Demonstrated knowledge of full-service catering operations.
Experience with menu mgmt. software.
Experience with event booking software.
Experience with scheduling software.
Previous experience in a university catering environment.
Experience and demonstrated skill working with Windows based computer programs.
Qualified applicants for this position will be team players, possess excellent communication and customer service skills, and remain calm under pressure.
Previous experience working in Union environments.
Two (2) years of experience in full-service catering management/supervisory position.
ServSafe certified.
