The Dining Programs Department is seeking a Catering Coordinator who assists with the day-to-day vision, planning, direction and operations for Catering operations on campus with a focus on guest satisfaction and engagement, quality execution and service. They will work closely with the Catering Director and Catering Chef in development and execution of menus, presentation, and service standards.
Focusing on the guest experience and quality execution will be vitally important in the role. This position will assist in the development and growth of the catering operations team as well as helping to develop and drive the vision for the Catering operations on campus.
The Catering Coordinator will need to be able to manage relationships and partnerships throughout the campus community, in addition to being well organized and be able to multitask.
Work in collaboration with the Catering Director and Marketing to promote and execute innovative presentation and develop the Catering Standards. Work in partnership with the Catering Director and marketing team to develop a rebranding strategy for catering operations on campus.
The Catering Coordinator will report to the Catering Director.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Operations
- Assists with the daily catering operations on campus and also supports the catering operational team.
- Supports all operational and financial management and partners with the Catering Director in overseeing the flawless execution of events.
- Assists with event staffing and scheduling.
- The Catering Coordinator will work alongside the Catering Director to review reports and ensure financial goals are being met.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with students, campus constituents, and team members.
- Ability to listen to clients and translate their ideas into executable events.
- Responsible for proofreading documents and ensuring accuracy.
- Assists with any event changes and special catering related requests and maintains Banquet Event Orders.
- Generates and Distributes Banquet Event Orders for events.
- Organize meetings and associated paperwork necessary for meetings.
- Manages Catering Staff operations and ensures all Standard Operating Procedures are being met.
- Communicates any service issues to Catering Director and Catering Chef.
- Supports team members with the tools necessary to complete their jobs.
- Ensures show quality standards are maintained at all times.
- Supports and communicates University initiatives.
- Provide administrative support to the Catering Director.
- Work with the Catering Director and Marketing Director to create and execute catering marketing initiatives.
- Troubleshoots issues and can think quick on their feet to manage all potential service recovery aspects.
Finance
- Supports the financial outcomes of the Catering operation encompassing $1.5 Million in revenue.
- Ensures cost controls are in place and being adhered to.
- Assists in the completion of required department reports.
Controls
- Assists in ensuring that all security, safety, and sanitation standards are achieved.
- Employs good safety and sanitation practices.
- Assists in the control of all catering inventories, product cost, and purchasing.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- High School Diploma required.
- A minimum of 3 years of related experience.
- Additional education can substitute for experience as permitted by the JHU Equivalency formula.*
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associates Degree, Culinary Degree or Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Catering Management experience preferred.
