Job Description:
Assists the Executive Director in driving the financial performance of assigned operations through planning, monitoring and maintaining established budgets and provides direct leadership oversight for OHIO Catering, exceeding operational goals/expectations for income and sales, customer satisfaction and employee productivity and development. Supports the overall mission of OHIO University and works in cooperation with recruitment, retention and enrollment. Sets safety and sanitation standards and ensures they are met in collaboration with the University's safety initiative.
Provides direction and leadership to the Catering Services management team. Provides leadership and fosters teamwork with the Executive Chef in the vision, planning, and day to day operations through:
o Service leadership, team building, coaching, training and staffing.
o Ordering and inventory control.
o Financial management.
o Safety and sanitation.
o Continual process analysis and process improvement.
o Coordination with other departments to achieve goals.
o Implementation of process improvement strategies.
o Ensures vision planning goals are met.
o Establishes client and other university departments relationships
o Establishes decor and uniform standards
- Assists the Executive Director in driving the financial performance of assigned operations through planning, monitoring and maintaining established budgets and leading the department in determining processes that are core to the unit and creates unique value for the venues. Performs regular benchmarking studies with peers to develop improvement strategies ensuring competitiveness and maximizing sales and ensuring a vibrant and up-to-date image. Provides advice/consult with department directors and other management on operations, menu development, food production and food trends. Devises and implements sales strategies, goals and metrics designed to effectively promote and sell products and services. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.
- This position is responsible for ensuring the Catering leadership team executes successful events in accordance with OHIO Catering's service standard by focusing on quality service and food, operating efficiencies and the guests. This position will ensure that OHIO Catering operates as a flagship operation providing the highest standards of quality and service. Develops and implements marketing plans for Catering and ensures website and online catering information are both updated and oversees and marketing initiatives. Provides campus-wide liquor management to the University through pricing, sales, product movement, inventory, government regulations, and training and supervision of bartenders.
- Monitors customer satisfaction through being present at events, conducting focus groups, surveys and responding to customer inquiries. Drives innovation by conducting research on catering and service trends and event planning. Ensures vehicle logs are completed as required and vehicles are properly maintained and provides support to other venues as needed. Directs and oversee the Catering exemption process.
- Offers recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments and serves on search committee for all levels of hiring. Participates in and/or leads departmental work groups and committees. Implements and oversees regular training. Directly related to catering as well as university mandated training.
- Supports the Division of Student Affairs (DOSA) Strategic Plan and the President's Strategic Pathways for Ohio University's future by: Promoting an environment of equity, inclusion and social justice in the day-to-day work of Culinary Services. Providing and supporting services and activities to student development and well-being in order to increase retention rates, academic progress and graduation rates. Advancing cultural competency at OHIO and the surrounding community through training staff and by infusing cultural competency into other training offered or managed by our team. Collaborating with OHIO and regional partners to enhance the University's national position as a leader in sustainability.
- Providing strategic guidance to a team of diverse professionals to collaborative partnerships throughout OHIO to enhance efficiencies and provide students with superior academic experiences. Performs special assignments and appointments as directed by the Executive Director of Culinary Services
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in the area of food service/management, retail, business or a related field, minimum of 6 years related work experience, minimum of 6 years supervisory/managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- ServSafe certification must be obtained within 1 year of employment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and practices and ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in the area of food service/management, retail, business or related field.
