Youth Program Coordinator
ALSO
Agency Description Incorporated in 1998, the Alliance of Local Service Organizations (ALSO) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Chicago, Illinois. We recognize that violence in homes and streets can be connected, and we work to end both. ALSO’s mission is to work in partnership with people living in risk of violence to promote safer streets and homes. Our vision is: Safe Homes, Safe Streets. ALSO carries out its mission in various and interconnected ways. ALSO’s “Safe Streets” team provides outreach, case management, workforce development and legal services to street-involved residents of Chicago’s northwest side neighborhoods to help increase their safety and transform their lives. The Safe Streets team partners with a wide range of local organizations and coalitions, including Chicago CRED, Metropolitan Family Services, and Communities Partnering 4 Peace, which features ALSO and Chicago’s other leading outreach organizations that have combined their expertise to jointly impact Chicago communities most affected by gun violence. A member of the Restorative Justice (RJ) Hub Network, ALSO subscribes to this community led restorative justice approach to youth crime and conflict and to the RJ Hub values, including: Radical Hospitality, Accompaniment, Building Relationships with Youth and Families, Relentless Engagement of Stakeholders and Systems, Collaboration and Relationships with other RJ Hubs. In addition, through needs-based tailored training, consultation and resource-sharing, ALSO’s “Safe Homes” team works with governmental and nongovernmental agencies located throughout the 56 U.S. States and Territories to build their capacity to improve systemic and community-based responses address domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence. Position & Role Overview As a shared position, the Youth Program Coordinator supports the federally-funded Consolidated Youth and Engaging Men and Boys as Allies (CYEM) and the locally-funded Safe Streets work at ALSO; and promotes the information feedback loop between direct services and technical assistance/training work to help expand knowledge of best practices to the violence prevention and intervention field more broadly. As the comprehensive technical assistance provider for the Consolidated Grant Program to Address Children and Youth Experiencing Domestic and Sexual Assault and Engage Men and Boys as Allies (CYEM Grant Program), ALSO provides training, consultation and resources to national grantees funded by the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). OVW’s CYEM Grant Program funds comprehensive, community-based efforts to develop or expand prevention, intervention, treatment, and response strategies to address the needs of children and youth impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sex trafficking. The CYEM Grant Program also funds prevention efforts that engage men and boys as allies to combat violence against women and girls. As part of the Safe Homes team at ALSO, the Youth Program Coordinator supports CYEM-funded technical assistance work by providing day-to-day coordination of grant activities which include event and meeting planning and logistics, content management for technical assistance and training, and responding to and triaging of grantee requests. ALSO’s Safe Streets programming offers tailored direct services to residents of Chicago’s northwest side, including the Hermosa, Logan Square, Humboldt Park and West Town neighborhoods. Through an innovative and community-centric approach, these direct services, including street violence intervention, re-entry services and youth employment, work to reduce street and intimate-partner violence. As part of the Safe Streets team, the Youth Program Coordinator will collaborate in external and cross training content development and delivery, support data collection around red flag relationships, and prepare and update related resources. The Youth Program Coordinator works as a part of a larger organization-team, and as such, collaborates with members of other teams to meet ALSO’s vision, mission, and organizational goals and objectives. Given this position’s responsibilities and focus on supporting the feedback loop between the Safe Streets and Safe Homes programming, this is not a remote position, and operates from ALSO’s offices in Chicago. Some in-state and out-of-state travel is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. As a shared position, job responsibilities are listed accordingly and are non-exhaustive, as additional duties may be required.
