We are seeking individuals to Join our Pack as a Cook. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee the back of house operations in support of the supervising chef when needed at a campus food court. Serves as a lead cook and assigns and directs efforts of other food service technicians and temporary employees. Essential job duties include: - Help check in, store, and move food supplies prior to and during production and ensure proper rotation of product.
- Work with front of house staff to set up food stations and coordinate the flow of food from production to line service.
- Keep track of food levels during meal time to ensure no lag time between replacement of food on the serving line.
- Take an accurate count of all food consumed and enter data information into C-Bord Food Production System if necessary in the absence of a supervising chef.
- Perform necessary cleaning of utensils, workplace, tables, shelves, and equipment and communicate cleaning assignments to other back of house employees.
- Maintain Grade A sanitation rating of 95% or better.
- Other duties as assigned to ensure NC State Dining business needs are met.
- Position may be asked to assist in other locations as necessary.
Other Work/Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned. Minimum Experience/Education: Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require certification by the Department of Correction. Required Qualifications: - Must be able to cook (roast, grill, fry, steam, and boil) food items according to a recipe.
- Must be able to read, write, and do mathematical problem solving (add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentages and fractions)
- Provide exemplary customer service to every guest
- Ability to learn new computer software
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Requires bending, twisting, pulling and pushing. Because of the nature of a food service operations and working in a kitchen, you must be able to work in extremely hot and cold conditions.
Preferred Qualifications: - Culinary degree or certification is preferred.
- Two years of short order or display cooking, buffet, and plated meal experience is required.
- Two years of planning, forecasting, ordering, budgeting experience; three years preferred.
- One (1) year of high volume (1,000+ a day) cooking experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or similar software.
Required license or certification: ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain within six months of employment.
