The Opportunity: Enthusiastic, dedicated, supportive, and hardworking â these are just a few of the ways we describe our team. The Presidential Banquet Captain will act as the lead server/captain to ensure quality guest service during all events held in the Office of the President or designated rooms/facilities where the President is present. As our coach and mentor, you will direct all of our fine dining operations, from employee management to event marketing. We are focused on creating a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment. The Accountabilities: - Review BEOâs and execute assigned events according to information provided and meeting planner requests
- Communicate consistently and clearly with event contacts, banquet staff, Catering Managers and the Chef to deliver exceptional events in all aspects
- Direct and assist in the in the banquet set up for all banquet functions
- Review all function sheets for last minute changes prior to the event
- Ensure that all guest requests, inquiries and concerns are promptly addressed
- Conduct pre-function meeting with staff to ensure the proper service and requirements of all banquet functions are met
- Coordinate and supervise all banquet functions to ensure that each course is served in accordance to the banquet event order
- Perform tableside and buffet food service as required
- Clean tables, including all glasses, silver, china, etc. during and after banquet functions
- Coordinate successful timing of events according to the guests needs and USC Hospitality standards
- Greet guests and continually monitor to ensure quality guest satisfaction
- Responsible for administrative duties to include banquet check preparation and food sign generation
- Assist the Management team by providing performance feedback for employees. Supervise, coach, counsel, and train employees when necessary. Facilitate pre-shift meeting to keep staff up-to-date on expectations and inform staff of important events or issues. Ensure staff attends training as required. Understand Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Monitor staff to ensure they are preforming proper job duties and taking breaks per University policy. Perform a closing check of all stations. Enter information into daily reports, fill out deposit log, enter waste numbers, and total the sales each day.
- Complete temperature logs. Report any issues to appropriate parties.
- Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen and dining area.
- Provide customer service to faculty, staff, students, and guests.
- Track inventory and order products, as needed. Manage food and labor costs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
The Qualifiers: - Education: High School Diploma.
- Experience: 3 years.
- Previous banquet serving experience in a mid-size hotel or convention center.
- Must have extensive knowledge of food and beverage preparations, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.
- Must have knowledge of proper table settings and serviceware.
- Ability to supervise, train, and develop employees.
- Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume hotel environment.
- Knowledge of standard food handling and sanitation procedures.
- Presents oneself professionally, in line with higher education environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
What We Prefer: - 4 years of experience.
- Previous banquet supervisory/lead experience.
- Ability to make quick and accurate decisions.
- Ability to perform under pressure effectively and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
- Experience training, supervising, and developing employees.
- Knowledge of supply management, inventory ordering, and budgeting.
