Catering Assistant, Catering - Dining - (19001734) Description This is an academic (40 weeks) year, part-time role for 17.5 hrs per week. Department Summary:
Tufts Dining is a self-operated food service provider managing a comprehensive collegiate food service program on the Tufts University Medford-Somerville and Fenway-Boston campus delivering high quality, contemporary and innovative food and hospitality services to meet the various needs of students, faculty, staff, administrators and visitors in a fiscally responsible manner. Our team operates a progressive resident dining program for approximately 4000 students as well as a responsive retail program and a distinctive university catering program for a campus community totaling 5500 undergraduates, 1800 graduate students and 2300 faculty, staff and administrators.
TUFTS CATERING OPERATES 7 DAYS A WEEK. WORKING WEEKENDS AND EVENINGS WILL BE EXPECTED
Job Summary: The Catering Assistant will provide outstanding service to the Tufts University Community by engaging in a variety of catering service functions and related tasks. The Catering Assistant will consistently greet, welcome and interact with customers and coworkers in a warm, respectful, professional and friendly manner to promote an atmosphere of hospitality and familiarity. S/He will be knowledgeable and have the ability to set up independently catering services that range from chilled and hot buffet set ups, reception table displays, coffee, beverage and alcohol bar set ups. In addition to setting up these services, the S/He will also be expected to serve from these stations and greet our guest. S/He will be knowledgeable about the ingredients and preparation methods of the foods served, especially with regards to the presence of potential allergens. S/He will have full working knowledge of formal plated meals and the style of service that we use to execute them. S/He will also execute all essential pre and post event tasks for the Catering Unit. S/He will be responsible for presenting foods for service including occasional light food and beverage preparation and heating up foods. S/He will be expected to contribute to a respectful workplace and support all events that are not assigned to them when possible. S/He will also be expected to onboard Temp Agency Employees and treat them with respect.
Demonstrate the ability to work under periods of fast pace and high pressure.
All employees are responsible for punching in and out in accordance with department policy and standards. S/He must be given permission from a manager to punch in early or stay past their schedule "out time." All employees will adhere to posted schedule and all requests for time off will be granted based on business needs. In accordance with the CBA, schedules will be posted 14 days (excludes catering) in advance. Time off requests must follow proper procedure and will be approved/denied in accordance with department needs.
No requests will be honored for Senior Week, Holidays, Alumni and Parents Weekend, Commencement, Orientation, Matriculation, or Special Events during the Academic Year.

Special Work Schedule Requirements: This position may work up to 35 hours per week. An employee in this position must complete all appropriate background checks at the time of hire, promotion, or transfer.
