DUTIES: The Clinical Coordinator for Regulatory Affairs and Risk Management will divide his or her time between two departments in QRRS, bringing clinical knowledge and experience to both the Regulatory Affairs and Risk Management. REGULATORY AFFAIRS Major responsibilities in Regulatory Affairs include: - Assessing hospital compliance with various regulatory and accreditation standards and initiatives, identifying areas of strength and weakness and developing and implementing projects to improve compliance. - Review of hospital and departmental policies. - Assist the director to stay current with changes to regulations and accreditation standards and disseminate throughout the facility. - Conduct assessments of compliance with board range of hospital regulatory and accreditation standards and initiatives, and work with staff to improve compliance. - Review hospital and departmental policies from a clinical perspective. RISK MANAGEMENT Major responsibilities in Risk Management include: - Investigation of events identified in the hospital's internal incident reports and in medical malpractice cases. - Interviews witnesses, reviews medical records and consults literature and regulatory standards to identify potential quality and liability concerns. - Creates succinct, literate written reports describing the investigation and findings. - Tracking and trending the types of events and cases investigated and answering questions of clinical staff about medico-legal questions involving consent, end of life care, adverse event management and other risk management areas. - Investigate events from incident reports and other internal sources and medical malpractice cases. - Interview witnesses, review medical records, conduct research, consult standards, compose reports and timelines, report incidents to NYS Department of Health, when required, facilitate root cause analysis meetings. - Track and trend incidents and medical malpractice cases. Other tasks include, but are not limited to: Assist with discovery requests on medical malpractice cases; Accept service of process; Assist in the preparation of Risk Management policies and departmental reports for hospital committees and administration; participate in education of staff. (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: - RN with related Bachelor's Degree. - NYS license. - A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience. - Excellent written and spoken communication skills. - Ability to manage several projects simultaneously. PREFERRED: - CPHRM or Lean Six Sigma certification. - A minumum of 2 years of experience in healthcare Risk Management or Regulatory Affairs or 2 years of experience with medical records review.
