Overview As the Catering Manager, works within the Dining Services Department to ensure that excellence in customer service is being provided throughout each catered event, while assuring that food is presented attractively, and in a fiscally responsible and sustainable manner, according to customer wishes and company standards. Works professionally and cooperatively as a valued member of the dining services management team, assisting with any aspect of the dining services operation necessary.
Under the direction of the Dining Services Director, coordinates and supervises all catering activities within the operation; catering events vary in size and scope
Works in conjunction with production, conference services, and sales staff to plan and coordinate details of catered events
Participates in hiring, scheduling, time keeping, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions of catering staff Trains and manages all catering staff
Maintains established food presentation and service standards; providing ongoing enhancement to these based upon current trends in the catering industry
Maintains excellent public relations with all customers, clients, staff, vendors, and the community; achieves high levels of customer and client satisfaction; communicates professionally with clients during events to assure their needs are met
Builds relationships with current clients as well as community members/potential clients in order to grow catering sales; promptly responds to all catering inquiries
Communicates catering menu offerings in an attractive and effective manner, paying attention to potential special dietary needs of the customer
Conducts and is responsive to post-event customer satisfaction surveys
Maintains an organized system of comprehensive record keeping for each catered event
Maintains appropriate levels of related catering supplies and decorations, which are in keeping with the seasons and/or are trend specific
Ensures that all catering equipment is properly maintained; maintains a neat and organized office area
Ensures the catered events are performed in a safe and sanitary manner; C.L.E.A.N.Works! program is followed
Conducts continuing analysis of the catering operation, recommending any operational changes necessary to the Director of Catering Services
Physical Demands/Work Environment The Catering Manager position involves working with standard office equipment and technology along with physical work within a commercial kitchen environment. Responsibilities include moving inventory, product, carts, tables, etc. as well as using kitchen utensils and commercial kitchen equipment. Environment may include hot, humid, or cold temperatures. May require extended working hours at times.

Education – Skills - Expectations
3 + years supervisory experience
Knowledge of proper table service techniques and design preferred
MS Office product computer skills, ability to learn event management software
Must possess a positive, can-do attitude, be detail-oriented, and possess a well-rounded knowledge of the food service industry.
Must maintain professionalism at all times, and work with others in a cooperative manner, even while working under pressure. Willing to engage actively in the physical work of a high-quality hospitality service operation.
